Symbiotic Appoints Former Société Générale Asset Management APAC CEO Mahendran Nathan as Global Head of Onchain Solutions

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands, Sept. 02, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Symbiotic, the collateral markets platform backed by Paradigm, Pantera Capital, cyber•Fund, and Coinbase Ventures, today announced the appointment of Mahendran Nathan as Global Head of Onchain Solutions, effective August 2026, bringing more than 25 years of institutional asset management, capital formation and investment experience to Symbiotic's global expansion.

Based in Singapore, Nathan joins as Symbiotic expands its focus on bringing institutional-scale capital into onchain markets. The industry has spent years building the technical infrastructure for assets and financial applications to operate onchain. The next phase depends on connecting that infrastructure to the institutions that manage the majority of global capital, and building the investment structures, governance, liquidity and reporting they require to participate.

Nathan brings deep practitioner-level experience in institutional asset management, product development and capital formation. As CEO and Regional Head of Société Générale Asset Management for Asia Pacific, he scaled the firm's regional platform from $300 million to $15 billion in AUM across global markets in seven years, winning mandates from sovereign wealth, central banks, pension funds, insurers and building the firm’s UHNW distribution. He later served as CEO for ASEAN, Hong Kong, Taiwan and India at Russell Investments. Since 2022, he has invested as an allocator across public and private markets, including global equities, private equity, private credit and real assets.

"The next phase of digital asset adoption depends on institutional capital moving onchain," said Misha Putiatin, co-founder of Symbiotic. "Pension funds, insurers and sovereign wealth funds need structures they can underwrite, reporting they can reconcile and governance they can approve. Symbiotic is building the collateral infrastructure for institutional capital to support credit, insurance, RWA liquidity and other onchain financial obligations under code-enforced terms. Mahen has spent his career raising and structuring capital for these institutions, then allocating it himself. His experience brings us closer to making institutional-scale onchain markets real."

At Symbiotic, Nathan will lead the design of investment solutions for asset owners and allocators, alongside capital formation and institutional coverage across the US, EMEA and APAC over time. His remit includes adapting structures, liquidity profiles, reporting and governance to the requirements of different investor types.

"My work has always started with the investor’s problem, not the product. Over twenty-five years, that has meant designing mandates, structured products and investment solutions around what different allocators actually need and more recently, sitting on the other side of the table making allocation decisions. Good investment thinking dies in the operational layer far more than it does in the portfolio. That is the layer Symbiotic is rebuilding.

"A pension fund, an insurer, a private bank, a family office, a corporate treasury and an onchain-native investor are not one audience. They need different structures, liquidity profiles, reporting and governance around the same exposure. My job is to design the right solution for each of them - and to hold those solutions to the scrutiny as their traditional counterparts. That is how we open these markets to a much broader base of institutional capital." – Mahendran Nathan, Global Head of Onchain Solutions at Symbiotic.

Nathan’s appointment marks a new phase in Symbiotic’s institutional expansion, bringing investment solution design and capital formation directly into the company as it scales collateral markets across credit, insurance, liquidity and tokenized assets.
